For over 15 years, we have offered our beverages at the same low prices—there have been no price increases at the diversity Café or for other beverage sales at the youth center since then. During this time, however, many of our costs have risen sharply, particularly due to high inflation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine: from purchasing and energy costs to ongoing operating expenses.
To ensure we can continue offering our services in the long term, we are therefore adjusting our prices effective May 17, 2026. The changes apply to all beverage sales within the organization — specifically the diversity Café and its open café operations, but also sales at the Youth Center.
It is important to us that this price adjustment be transparent, socially equitable, and responsible.
What does this exactly mean?
- Members will benefit: We are increasing the member discount to €0.50 so that regular visitors continue to pay affordable prices—whether at the café or the youth center. So: Become a member and enjoy many benefits!
- Non-alcoholic beverages remain intentionally affordable: Still water remains free, the price of sparkling water does not increase at all for members and only minimally for non-members—and Sprite will also become only slightly more expensive. This is intended to ease the financial burden on minors in particular.
- Alcoholic beverages will be adjusted differently: Drinks with a higher alcohol content, in particular, will see a steeper price increase. In doing so, we are also sending a clear message in favor of responsible alcohol consumption.
Furthermore, our youth café remains a place where you don’t have to buy anything. Anyone who wants to spend time here without consuming our drinks or food is welcome to continue doing so.
Even after these price adjustments, our prices remain well below the usual rates in Munich’s restaurant industry, and the proceeds from our beverage sales (as well as food sales) continue to benefit diversity — and thus our youth work — in full.
Why this step is important
Our goal is to establish the association’s beverage sales on a financially stable footing overall. In the future, the café should operate on a break-even basis and, where possible, use the profits to help secure our programs at the youth center in the long term.
This will allow us to continue creating a safe, inclusive, and vibrant space for young people.
