The history of diversity München

Here, you can find more information of the history of diversity München.

In the year 2000, a workshop was organised in collaboration with SUB (schwules Kommunikations- und Kulturzentrum), where the wish for a LesBiGay youth center in Munich was voiced. The same year, the diversity café was founded, soon taking place for the first time in the Glockenbachwerkstatt. As membership numbers continuously grew over the years, the organisation LesBiSchwule Jugendhilfe e.V. was founded.

In 2004, the parallel structures of Gleich&Gleich and LesBiSchwule Jugendhilfe e.V. were abandoned and turned into a single organisation: Gleich&Gleich LesBiSchwule Jugendhilfe e.V. This organisation took on the function of the governing body for the LesBiGay youth groups under the name diversity. Under its roof, all groups for young lesbian, bi, gay, and trans people were united.

During Munich Pride 2005, demands for a collective LGBTIAQ* youth center were made public and supported by the city government. In Spring 2007, the city council of Munich decided to support the LGBTIAQ* youth center. On 15 June 2007, the youth center opened its doors in Blumenstraße 11.
